Raving About Ravenwood GC – Victor, NY

by mdiehl on August 13, 2012

Happy 10th Anniversary, Ravenwood Golf Club. There are a lot of reasons why you’ve become a favorite of mine.

A few months ago, friend and colleague Carol White Llewellyn (The Travel Maven and the genius behind BrainiacGetaways) and I took a trip to Ravenwood in Victor, NY to do a video shoot. Two ladies who do not play golf… (But I do love golf courses, as you may know.)

Located in Victor, NY — just outside the golf-rich region that surrounds Rochester, NY – Ravenwood was listed the #5 Best New Public Course in America by Golf Digest in 2003 — just one year after it opened. It was designed by Robin Nelson “with the public player in mind.”

It’s racked up many honors since then. (Check out the video and you’ll hear more.) Ravenwood has hosted the 2003 & 2009 NYS Amateur and a US Open qualifier, among others. And the course is easily accessible from the NYS Thruway. Ravenwood is also part of the Finger Lakes Golf Trail (4 courses) with stay-and-play packages.

Carol deserves all credit on shooting, editing and producing this video. But I helped — as consultant and question-asker.

We interviewed Mike Roeder, General Manager at Ravenwood, on a windy day (Carol has since gotten sound-buffering equipment). Mike is one of my go-to guys on projects that involve golf tourism. He’s tremendously knowledgeable and a real forward-thinker in marketing his golf club and golf in the region in general.

Thumbs up to Carol — check out what Mike has to say. If you’re in the Rochester area — on business, visiting family, or looking for a fun golf trip — Ravenwood is a great spot to include in your plans.
